Best sofa sales for August 2024
We’ve already found your favourite sofa brands on the market. In our July 2023 survey of sofa brands, we asked over 4,000 of our members to rate their sofas on factors including comfort, durability and quality.
All the sales we recommend here are from brands that did reasonably well in our survey, but you'll have to visit our best sofa shops page to find out which ones came out top.
Note: Percentage discounts and ‘before’ prices stated are according to the brands.
Our pick: Further reductions on Jack and Jude sofas at Sofa.com
Sale dates: 18 July - 28 August
We like: Huge savings - up to 50% off depending on fabric type
We don’t like: Only two sofa styles available
Sofa.com is offering further reductions on its Jack and Jude sofa ranges, which are inspired by British brand Jack Wills.
They are great options if you are looking for a two- or three-seater midcentury sofa, and they come in simple or brightly patterned fabrics.
Prices start from £399 for a two-seater sofa.

Best mid-range and budget sofa sale
Sofa clearance sale at Next
Sale dates: While stocks last
We like: Extra large sofas available
We don’t like: There are only 11 sofas in the sale
Next is selling 11 sofas on clearance, with savings ranging from 20% to 50%.
These sofas include armchairs (starting from £220) and six-seater corner sofas (starting from £1,749).
As it is a clearance sale, once these sofas are gone, they won't be restocked - so it may be worth checking this one out sooner rather than later.
Up to 20% G-Plan Buy Online collection
Sale dates: 28 June - 4 September
We like: Up to 20% off selected models online
We don’t like: The models online are fairly similar designs
G-Plan is offering up to 20% off its Buy Online collection, which includes seven different models. Prices start from around £1,500 for two-seater sofas.
There isn't a huge variety of styles on offer - the Connie sofa is a midcentury inspired design, but the others are more classic in style.
However, you can choose from a huge range of fabrics, sizes, and recliner types.

Best luxury sofa sales
Offers on Ercol sofas at selected stockists
Sales dates: 28 June - 29 August
We like: Discounts on premium quality sofas
We don’t like: Sales vary by stockist and you can't purchase online
Ercol is running a sofa sale across July and August.
Unlike other sales we recommend, this isn't happening on the brand's website - it's at selected Ercol stockists across the UK.
We suggest you choose the sofa you want online, and then find a stockist with that range - you could even phone the store to check whether they have stock and the percentage discount advertised.
It is a luxury brand, so don’t expect to pay less than £3,000 for a small sofa. But if you're looking for an investment piece, this sale is worth checking out.
Best sofa bed sale
Summer sale at DFS
Sales dates: While stocks last
We like: The large range of sofa bed styles on sale
We don’t like: You'll need to wait a minimum of four weeks for delivery
DFS has knocked around 20% off a large range of its sofa beds in its summer sale.
There is a huge range of products available, including click-clack and pull-out beds in two- and three-seater options. It's even offering a large corner sofa with a chaise, which is perfect if you need to sleep two people.
Prices start from £699 for a two seater sofa bed.

When is the best time to buy a sofa?
You might think that the Christmas and Black Friday periods are a great time to buy a sofa, but this isn’t always the case. In fact, our analysis of 208 discounted products at eight major home and tech retailers found that only 2% of items were at their best price on Black Friday.
Check out our full report for more information.
Instead, try looking for discounts during these key sales periods:
- End-of-season sales: before the start of a new sales period, brands often want to get rid of old stock, so this can be a great time to grab a bargain
- Summer: people tend to focus on home improvements more in winter, so you can often find good promotions running at the opposite time
- Late winter: after the Black Friday rush, many brands will continue to offer great savings
Remember that a lot of stores will run sales for a large portion of the year, so it might be worth tracking an item you want for a few weeks – or months, if you can wait – to see what happens to the price.
How much do I need to spend to get a good sofa?
The answer really depends on the brand.
In our customer survey of more than 4,000 Which? members, we found some cheaper brands that really shone, and some expensive brands that were rated poorly. Don’t just take the price or brand name as an indicator of quality.
The price also depends on the material you want, and any additional extras. You can get a great-quality fabric sofa for much cheaper than a great-quality leather sofa.
Finally, make sure that you consider the longevity of your sofa. In our survey, we found that readers with a faux leather sofa were significantly more likely to report that their sofa was damaged compared with other materials.
Buying a cheaper sofa might cost less initially, but if you want to keep it looking newer for longer (or you have kids and pets), it might be worth spending a little more.
You can read more about this investigation, and our tips for buying a durable sofa, in our guide to why you shouldn’t buy a faux leather sofa.
What happens if I’m not happy with my sofa when it arrives?
Most sofa shops offer a cooling-off period, during which you can return your sofa – provided you haven’t used it, and it’s still in the original packaging.
This means that if your sofa comes and you decide that you don’t like it, or it doesn’t fit in your room, you can return it.
These periods generally range between 14 and 30 days.
Check out our guide to cooling-off periods for more information.
Bear in mind that this doesn’t always apply to bespoke items or sales items (especially clearance sales), so check before you buy.
